Marrissa Powers, M.S.
Associate Marriage and family therapist* (165684)
Pronouns: She/Her/Hers or They/Them/Theirs
I prioritize creating a therapeutic space that feels safe, welcoming, and authentic. I believe that people have a deep capacity for growth and flourishing within them, and that therapy can provide a space to uncover and reconnect with those parts of ourselves. I place a strong emphasis on the therapeutic relationship, which I see as an important part of the process of creating meaningful and lasting change.
In sessions, I tend to offer a lot of space and openness, while also providing more structure when it feels helpful or necessary. I often begin by checking in with what is happening in the body and may incorporate movement, relaxation techniques, or other ways of helping clients connect with and respond to what they are experiencing in the moment. From there, I like to keep sessions flexible and grounded in each client's goals, inviting them to share what feels most important to explore that day. I may offer perspective, ask questions, or help clients work through a specific problem, while remaining attentive to what the moment calls for. For clients who are looking for more concrete support or problem-solving, including those navigating ADHD, I am happy to bring additional structure and practical guidance to our work. My hope is that therapy feels collaborative, genuine, and responsive to each client's individual needs.
I identify as queer and especially enjoy working at the intersection of religion, gender, and sexuality. I appreciate creating space for clients to explore how their cultural identities intersect with their relationships, sense of self, values, and broader life experiences.
I have a Master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy from Fuller Theological Seminary. Before joining Framework, I worked at HerHealingLA, where I gained experience supporting clients in an outpatient setting.
I am supervised by Dr. Cox (32272). Clients are welcome to reach out to Framework’s Associate Director for Training, Dr. Leal, for any questions or concerns.
