Rikk Cavin, M.A.

Licensed marriage and family therapist* (132703)

Pronouns: He/Him/His

I specialize in working with creatives and often address topics of shame, anxiety, fear, and self-criticism in therapy. Therapy is about trust and authenticity. If I cannot be my authentic self in the room, then how can I expect you to? So I do my best to show up each week as an authentic and down-to-earth person, hopefully helping you quickly feel comfortable and accepted.

I have a Master’s in Clinical Counseling from Point Loma Nazarene University. My therapeutic approach is person-centered & solution-focused. I believe that it can be valuable to have a few grounding techniques at our disposal as we begin to explore your primary reasons for therapy. After speaking about and practicing these tools for a few weeks, and after we’ve built a solid rapport, we can focus more on deeper exploration, if you’d like.

I’m a mixed-race, first generation Chicano-American and I enjoy working with clients around their cultural experiences and values. I’m passionate about social justice, particularly with racial minorities, LGBTQIA+ folks, and neurodivergent communities.

Outside of providing therapy, I love playing the drums and spending time with animals.
